Why Have Deadbolt Locks Installed

Snellville Locksmith Whether it is your home security of commercial security, you can always benefit from deadbolt locks. Deadbolt locks are the best way of securing your property. They are made from the most durable metal, which makes them very difficult to compromise. While most people have them installed on their exterior doors, there are new homeowners who don’t and they need a little more convincing that this is a necessity to aid in the security of their homes. We suggest that everyone have deadbolt locks installed on their exterior doors. This is because they are effective in keeping out intruders. A deadbolt lock has a cylinder lock that has a locking feature. The lock is designed with a bolt that goes into the door, which is what makes it so difficult to break in. The bolt is released once you turn the key in the correct direction and a spring is what will place it back in the right position. When you don’t have a spring on the lock then you definitely need a deadbolt lock.

The Locks Pins and Tumbler

Your cylinder will have pins and tumblers. These pins come in various heights. They are also arranged in a set inside a tube. It is the springs that keep the pins in the correction position. The pins not only come in different heights but they are arranged to the appropriate height for the key that you are using. When the incorrect key is inserted into the lock, it won’t move. The key will remain in the lock and the pins won’t reach the right height to disengage the lock. When the correct key is inserted then the pins will fit into the correct grooves and the key will then start to turn. Once the cylinder moves the deadbolt will also begin to move away from the frame of your door and this will then unlock the lock.

Deadbolt Lock Installation

Our locksmiths would all agree that it is very important to have the right type of deadbolt locks for your need. However, just as important to having the right type of deadbolt locks is having them properly installed. When the lock is not correctly installed, you still won’t have the level of security that you wish to have. A very important feature of your deadbolt lock is the strike plate. This is what reinforces the doorframe. No one will be able to simply kick in the door when you have the lock properly installed because the strike plate will prevent them from being able to do this.

Types of Deadbolt Locks

When you start thinking about the type of deadbolt lock that you will have installed, do yourself a favor and consider a deadbolt lock. These are the locks that we recommend for maximum security. We believe that you should know all that you can about deadbolt locks before buying them. Here are the types of deadbolt locks that we install most often.

  • Single Cylinder Deadbolt Locks

It is the single cylinder deadbolt lock that you will find on most exterior doors, especially residential doors. It is the type of lock with a keyhole on the outside and a thumb turn on the inside.

  • Double Cylinder Deadbolt Lock

The double deadbolt lock has a cylinder of both sides of the lock. Although this type of deadbolt lock is just as efficient as a single cylinder deadbolt lock, it can be problematic because with a keyhole on both sides, you’ll also have to have a key for each side. If there is an emergency then you’ll have to have both keys to unlock the lock.

  • Jimmy Proof Deadbolt Lock

This lock is surface mounted and is installed primarily on double doors and don’t need to be modified. The deadbolt locks with its brackets that fit into the doorjamb, this makes it virtually impossible to pull the door apart. There are lock screws in the door and the only thing that is need is a hole for the rim cylinder to fit into.

  • Captive Deadbolts

This type of deadbolt is generally the same as a double cylinder deadbolt lock. It comes with two cylinders inside but may also act as a single cylinder deadbolt if a special key is attached to the thumb turn. There is a piece on the inside of the thumb turn inside the lock. This offers additional security.

There is no denying that deadbolt locks are the best way to add security to your home or to your commercial business. You don’t have to spend a whole lot of money upfront to get the level of security that you need if you have deadbolt locks installed on the exterior of your doors. You can upgrade your security simply by having deadbolt locks installed. Regardless of how durable a deadbolt lock is, it should always be correctly installed if it is going to prove beneficial.

Reputable and Reliable Locksmith Services

The only way to be sure that your deadbolt lock is correctly installed is by hiring a reputable locksmith. You’re usually able to find a reputable locksmith by doing some upfront research. If you ask around for a good locksmith then anyone who has received good service from a local locksmith will let you know. If you can’t find anyone who has received services from a locksmith recently then just do some online research. You can check review websites to find out what others are saying about a specific type of deadbolt locksmith services. If someone receives reputable and reliable locksmith services, they will usually let you know. Don’t just hire any locksmith because they may not produce the results that you are seeking.
