Snellville Locksmith

If you’ve done any research or just browsed around at a store, you will see that there are so many options for locks. We want to discuss the various kinds of locks so you have a better idea of what you might benefit from for your property. Any lock, regardless of the kind that it happens to be, serves as a security measure, privacy measure and often times, a deterrent for theft. Some locks might work better for you than others. If you have questions about the various kinds of locks that are available to better secure your property, just contact our licensed and insured experts.

Deadbolt locks

When it comes to deadbolt locks, you have quite a few options just in this category alone. There are mechanical and electrical deadbolt locks, different finish options and so on. You can take advantage of double cylinder deadbolt locks, single cylinder deadbolt locks, electronic deadbolt locks, one sided deadbolt locks, smart deadbolts, one sided deadbolt with an exterior plate and so on.

A single cylinder deadbolt with have an exterior keyhole and it can be installed fairly fast. A double cylinder deadbolt will have exterior and interior keyholes. An electronic deadbolt lock will generally have a finger-resistant screen that offers additional security. A one-sided deadbolt lock will not have an exterior plate. There will not be trim exposed. A smart deadbolt can be connected to your smartphone, which is a very cool, new feature. Basically, there are quite a few options available in the deadbolt lock category alone. These are certainly worth looking into when you are considering the various kinds of locks!

Padlocks

Padlocks can be moved, making them a great option for many people. While other locks are permanently in place, these are not permanently attached. Currently, there are a few padlocks that are considered to be very popular. The list includes:

  • ABUS Diskus Padlock.
  • Stanley Shrouded Hardened Steel Padlock.
  • Master Lock Word Combination Lock.
  • Desired Tools 4 Digit Combination Lock.
  • Kwikset SmartKey.
  • Master Lock Bluetooth Padlock.
  • ABUS Titanium Aluminum Alloy Padlock.
  • Master Lock Set Your Own Combination Padlock.

For the record, there are two kinds of padlock locks. The first kind is a combination lock. This is the kind of lock you would see in a high school locker room or on a locker in any standard school. Combination locks have dials on them so they are easy to recognize. Unfortunately, they aren’t too difficult to break, so they don’t provide a ton of security. The second padlock type is a keyed padlock. Keyed padlocks are opened using a key. Keyed padlocks can be rekeying able or non-rekey able. Both offer different benefits so you might want to check out both if you are looking for a padlock.

Knob locks

Knob locks are very popular because they can be used on so many different doors. Generally speaking, this kind of lock can be found on interior and exterior doors for homes/residential properties. They can be placed securely on your garage door, bedroom door, front door or even your patio door. You will notice that they have knobs placed on both sides. On side 1, you will see a lock. On side 2, you will see a key hole. Depending on which side of the door the lock can be found on, when you go to replace a knob lock, you are going to need either a left-hand or right-hand knob lock. If the door knob can be found on the right side of the door, it’s going to require a right-hand knob lock. On the other hand, if the door knob can be found on the left side of the door, you will need a left-hand knob lock. The only concern with knob locks is that it isn’t too difficult to break them. With that in mind, if you do have knob locks, or plan to have new ones installed, consider deadbolt locks as well to go with them. You can’t beat having an added security layer, can you?

Lever handle locks

Lever handle locks are another kind of lock and they are often found on interior doors. You might have seen them before or noticed them at commercial properties. If someone is looking to be handicapped-accessible, they should consider lever handle locks. Because of the ease with which they can be broken, they shouldn’t be used as a primary security measure. But they can be locked by pushing a button or twisting. It depends on what you get.

These are some of the most popular kinds of locks available, and it is important to consider all of your options when you are looking to improve the security of your property.
